Morning Sun is a tabby-tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat with green eyes.

History[]

Morning Sun's Choice[]

Morning Sun was born to Siwiti within the Cats of the Beach group. She was her mother's only daughter, and Siwiti treasured her. Siwiti was a young mother when she had the young kit and so it was a learning experience for her. She had also only recently taken over leadership of the group from another she-cat, of whom she was distantly related to.
Morning Sun was a quiet and curious cat, often sticking by her mother and her mother's friends. During her earlier moons, there weren't many other cats to play with that were her age but soon she had friends in Campania, Okisollo, and Koeye. Under the care and support of those around her, Morning Sun soon matured into a beautiful she-cat that was the apple of her mother's eye. She also embodied many of the traits of the core members of the Beach cats, sharing the belief regarding the Blackfins and their strong spiritual significance.
One greenleaf, Morning Sun met a stranger - a rogue named Caspius. She would meet him at the edge of the Beach's territory. He would tell her about lands far away from her home, stories that filled her with a wonder of the world. Morning Sun would return the favour and tell Caspius about her home and their peaceful life on the Beach. After each meeting between the pair, the she-cat became more and more smitten with the tom.
However, this would lead to an altercation between Caspius and Morning Sun's home. He threatened them, wanting to declare himself as leader and the mate of Morning Sun. Morning Sun was torn by this action but to avoid conflict, she decided to join Caspius to protect her mother and group mates. However, instead of simply leading them her new mate cast her family out with threats of violence. It was on a late leaf-fall night Morning Sun would see her mother for the last time.

Together with her mate, and a feeling of regret, Morning Sun remains on the Beach territory. Countless times, Caspius tries to court Morning Sun further into having their own family. She manages to hold off for a while until seasons later after the loss of her family, she falls pregnant. Somewhat weary, she tries to hide the pregnancy but eventually gives birth to a single kit - a daughter. The tabby tortoiseshell is over the moon to have her own daughter, naming her Hali for their ocean home. However, Caspius showcases the first hints of displeasure at Morning Sun's culture and disowns Hali has his offspring. In a cruel move to hold power over his mate, he explains to Morning Sun that her daughter can remain as long as is able to try again with her for sons in a subsequent litter. The she-cat reluctantly agrees to Caspius's deal.
Waiting no time, Morning Sun falls pregnant again not too longer after she weans Hali. When she gives birth, she is thankful to her ancestors for blessing her with two sons. The she-cat names them Ahote and Lise, which her mate allows and he holds up his deal and allows Hali to remain with her mother.

Hali's Revolution[]

Morning Sun is a queen of the Beach cats, nursing Caspius's litter of kits - Ahote, Lise, and Moana.
She often comforts her older daughter, Hali, as she deals with the brunt of Caspius's frustrations. The she-cat teaches her kits lessons from her own youth, regarding the Blackfins and the true culture of the Beach cats. However, as her two sons, Ahote and Lise, grow, Caspius removes them from her lessons and instill his own teachings to them. Throughout Hali's early moons, Morning Sun remains a support and role model for her daughter, despite their circumstances.
Some moons later, Morning Sun is expecting her fifth litter of kits, having lost the previous one early in gestation. Hali dotes on her mother, noticing that she seems unwell compared to her previous litters. Hali also recognises that her father has been rougher and less forgiving on all them this time around, excluding his sons. As it gets closer to her moon of kitting, Morning Sun is barely able to leave her nest due to her illness. As a result, she kits early and is supported by her two daughters through the process. Sadly, she passes away after the kitting but the kits survive. Hali names them Finis, Kipling, and Pouriliu - all with names that her mother had discussed prior. Caspius is gutted at the loss of Morning Sun, and subsequently the kits as they also succumb to weakness.
Hali is essentially exiled from the family after her mother's death and retreats from the Beach. She finds herself within the Town, meeting a group of she-cats that seem to know of the Beach territories. Amongst the group, Hali unknowingly at the time meets Morning Sun's mother, Siwiti, who is now the former leader of the cats. She shelters there for a few moons, recovering from injuries caused by her father and whilst there she learns that most of the older she-cats within the group are her kin. Hali is the one to break the awful news to Siwiti that Morning Sun is deceased and what had happened to the she-cat in the moons between their separation.
When Caspius is killed and his group of followers are chased off, Hali feels relieved that her mother's memory can now be remembered freely. Siwiti recalls her daughter fondly when Hali is expecting her first litter of kits, and has the passing thought of not being there for the she-cat. But, she feels better knowing that Morning Sun lives on through Hali and Moana, as well as the former's unborn kits.

Interesting facts[]

  • Morning Sun was named after the sun-like markings on her face and pelt.

Author statements[]

Detailed description[]

Morning Sun is a small, lean she-cat. She has a intermediate build overall, however, her face leans to the thinner more angular side. She has soft, long fur that is often kept neat and tidy. She has tall ears, high cheekbones and almond shaped yellow-green eyes. Despite her later life, Morning Sun's pelt remained free of scars or blemishes.
Her pelt is tabby-tortoiseshell mix of browns and reds. Her tabby markings are blotched with large, thick stripes down her sides and on her tail. The tortoiseshell markings are relatively large patches, focused on her face, sides and her tail. Some of these markings appear like suns, which gave Morning Sun her name. Elsewhere it appears more brindled and mixed with the dark brown tabby markings. On her face, chest, and right front paw she has white markings.

Personality and traits[]

In her youth, Morning Sun is presented as a sweet young cat who is curious of the world. She is brought up primarily by her mother, the leader of their group on the beach. Within this group, the culture focuses on the respect of their homeland and keeping memories of their past mothers (who manifest in the physical world as Blackfins). Morning Sun is shown to be very fond of her culture and beliefs especially amongst her similar aged peers. It gives her a natural curiosity of the world outside of her beautiful home, which leads to her learning about some of the cruelty it can offer.
In the later years of her life, Morning Sun became a mother herself - to many. She learnt how strong her maternal instinct could be and leant into it heavily. She loved her life as a mother, however, she leant to put up with a lot of abuse and neglect from her mate. It led to her become somewhat reclusive and secretive with her kits and pregnancies, which made her feel like a shell of the cat she truly is. Morning Sun is fiercely protective of her kits and this often led to her taking on a lot more to ensure they thrived in their situation. No matter her own frustrations or pain, she never took it back out on her little ones and instead turned back to her upbringing and belief of her ancestors.
