MarshClan is a group of cats that live by the Lake of the Ancestors, their territory primarily consisting of scattered wetlands. They border HeatherClan to the west[2] and are the closest to Starfalls, with their territory narrowly bordering the sacred landmark's boundaries on the east side.[3]
Description[]
MarshClan is one of four Clans[1] that reside by the Lake of the Ancestors.[2] They are a proud Clan, not scared to challenge another Clan even if the stakes are high.[4]
Despite being surrounded by water, their main source of food is land animals, such as small rodents like voles, mice and shrews. They do not hesitate at the option of eating fish, however, and many actually prefer the taste of aquatic animals.
Territory[]
Their territory is primarily marshy wetland, bordered by a stream on HeatherClan's side and a thick, fast-flowing river on the other, leading to Starfalls. Their camp is situated on a small island-like patch of land that is encircled by a river that cuts off just before the two streams connect.
The leader's den is a large, hollow willow tree that sits in a corner which also shelters the Half-Tree — a tall tree stump that's been split in the middle by a lightning strike.
The nursery is a flower-surrounded dip in the ground, near the edge of the camp, that's protected by saplings and bushes. Directly beside it lies the elder's den, which is a fallen-over, hollow oak trunk.
The warrior's den is a large bush, directly connected to the apprentice's den on the left with a thin hedge of bracken splitting the two dens. Nearby the leader's den is the medicine cat's den: a boulder that is split down the middle, giving just enough space for both the medicine cats and sick to comfortably reside in.
Noteable landmarks on MarshClan's territory include:
- The Scattered Forest, where apprentices and their mentors will practice various battle and hunting techniques, including how to climb trees and leap from one rock to another.
- The Stepping-Stones, a naturally-formed path of small, smooth stones that give easy access to Starfalls. Whilst they aren't officially in MarshClan's land, a lot of warriors still consider it to be a landmark of their Clan's territory.
Cats[]
MarshClan cats have sleek, water-repellant fur and muscular legs. They are often smaller than most other cats, and sometimes also have webbed paws which allows them to swim with ease.
Their pelt colours vary, though are usually black, brown, ginger or grey to blend in with their envoirnment. Eye colours can range from dark copper to pale green and those in-between; blue and heterochromic eyes are rare though not unheard of.

MarshClan is one of two Clans that still upholds the tradition of gifting seasonal wildflowers to the leader and medicine cats to wear in their fur.

Apprentice Ceremony[]

I believe that you are ready to become a mentor, and so I choose you to train and guide (Apprentice). I trust you will pass down all you know onto [them]. |

The mentor and apprentice will touch noses, and then proceed to patrol the territory together after the ceremony, with the mentor pointing out land marks and encouraging the apprentice to remember the routes they take.
By sundown, the mentor and apprentice will head back to camp and eat travelling herbs given to them by the medicine cat. They will then head to Starfalls, and rest together on a boulder in the middle of the pool at moonhigh to receive StarClan's blessing.
If the sky is covered by clouds by the time it is sundown, the mentor and apprentice will postpone their journey until the next clear night.
Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony[]

The medicine cat and apprentice will touch noses, and then proceed to patrol the territory together after the ceremony, with the medicine cat pointing out where certain herbs grow and encouraging the apprentice to remember the scents of the herbs and locations they are in.
By sundown, the medicine cat and apprentice will head back to camp and prepare travelling herbs to eat. The apprentice is encouraged to remember what herbs are used. They will then head to Starfalls, and rest together on a boulder in the middle of the pool at moonhigh to receive StarClan's blessing.
If the sky is covered by clouds by the time it is sundown, the medicine cat and apprentice will postpone their journey until the next clear night.
At the next half-moon meeting, the medicine cat and apprentice go to Starfalls, where the apprentice confirms their wish to become a medicine cat in front of StarClan and the other Clans' medicine cats. Should the apprentice be promoted on a half-moon, this ceremony will be followed by the medicine cat and apprentice resting atop the boulder underneath the moonlight to receive StarClan's blessing once the half-moon meeting is over.

The apprentice will then touch their nose to the water of the Starfalls pool, and the half-moon meeting will continue.
Warrior Ceremony[]
Once an apprentice has passed their assessment, or have made an important contribution to the Clan, the leader will call a meeting and promote them to a warrior. This is done before the gaze of Silverpelt, just after sundown.
| Leader: | Warriors of StarClan, I call upon you to look down on this apprentice. [They] have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend [them] to you as a warrior in [their] turn. (Apprentice), do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life? |

| Leader: | Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. (Apprentice), from this night forward, you will be known as (Warrior name). StarClan honours your [virtues], and we welcome you as a full warrior of MarshClan. |

The leader and new warrior will then touch their noses to each other's shoulders. The warrior will sit a silent vigil guarding the camp throughout the night until the morning.
Medicine Cat Ceremony[]
Once the medicine cat apprentice has learnt enough, the medicine cat and apprentice will travel to Starfalls the next half-moon meeting and perform the following ceremony.

[They] have trained hard to understand the ways of the medicine cat, and with your help [they] will serve [their] Clan for many moons. (Apprentice), do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat—to stand apart from rivalry between the Clans and to protect all cats equally? |

Deputy Ceremony[]
After the former deputy dies or is promoted to leader status, the leader will call a meeting and perform the following ceremony just after sundown.

Springstar[]
- Springstar is the current leader of MarshClan, succeeding Cinderstar. Her deputy is Snowberry and her medicine cats, Ashpool and Cloudpaw. Springstar is a wise, yet stubborn, leader, taking her job very seriously. Her parents are noted to be Doelegs and Minnowheart, two of MarshClan's elders.
