Buzzardclaw was a born leader from the moment he left the nursery. He was wise and observant, but at the same time open and warm to his clanmates. These are the qualities that eventually won his the position as WindClan deputy.
Heather Pelt was his only weakness, with a pelt soft to the touch and deep amber eyes. When Heather Pelt became pregnant with his kits, Buzzardclaw was ashamed- how could he have fallen in love with a loner?
After Heather Pelt left the moor and entered the forest, yellow monsters with cupped, sharp claws began invading clan territory, uprooting trees and frightening prey. WindClan, however, was the last to suffer.
Prey was scarce. When Heather Pelt and her sons, Drifting Cloud and Heron, approached Buzzardclaw one morning, the WindClan deputy was embarrassed to be seen so thin and sickly. He told Heather Pelt to get the kits away from clan territory, because it was no longer a safe place for any cat to live.
Soon after this visit, WindClan was forced to leave the moor and to find a new home, along with their fellow forest clans, whose homes had also been destroyed. Though he and Heather Pelt were no longer mates, Buzzardclaw was hesitant to leave her and his kits alone in the living nightmare.
